The job is not finished until the drywall is installed or repaired. Getting a smooth, level wall surface that is prepared for painting or wallpapering is the major objective of drywall finishing.
The drywall finishing process typically involves several steps, including:
- Taping & Mudding: During the taping, drywall joints are reinforced with paper tape and joint compound. Subsequently, multiple layers of joint compound are applied and smoothed out during the mudding stage until an even surface is achieved. Typically, at least three layers of mud are needed.
- Sanding & Smoothing: Lastly, sanding is done to smooth out any minor imperfections and achieve a flawless finish. Sanding and smoothing will make even multiple sheets of drywall look like one huge sheet.
- Painting: The finishing touch is painting, which we can handle for you if you’d like. Typically, the painting includes at least a couple of coats of primer and paint.
In the end, the caliber of the drywall finish will be determined by the grade of the materials used and the ability and knowledge of the workmen performing the task. Not only aesthetically pleasing, but also contributes to a building’s overall lifetime and durability.
